The birds are starting to chirp, and the marinas are getting busy. Before the first warm weekend hits, don’t let a failed seam or a cloudy window keep you at the dock!
Here are 4 things every boat owner should check now to avoid the spring rush:
1. The “Sunbrella® Breathability” Myth: Did you know that while Sunbrella® is water-resistant, it’s designed to breathe? If you see water pooling or soaking through, your factory finish might be worn. A professional cleaning and re-treatment now can save the fabric from rot later.
2. Don’t Let Your Windows Go Blind: If your Strataglass™ or clear vinyl looks “foggy,” it’s often due to UV fallout or using the wrong cleaners. Pro Tip: Never use Windex! We can assess if they need a specialty deep-polish or if it’s time for a crystal-clear replacement.
3. The “Silent Killer” (Thread Decay): Often, the canvas is fine, but the seams are failing. We use PTFE Lifetime Thread that won’t rot or bleach out. If you see “looping” or loose strings, let’s restitch it now before a summer storm rips it open.
4. Hardware Check-Up: Salt and grit love to seize up zippers and corrode snaps over the winter. A quick lubrication or a few snap replacements can prevent a frustrating (and expensive) tear when you’re trying to open the boat up.
